Restaurant Review: Newport Natural Foods and Cafe/Montgomery's Cafe

Occasionally, I will post reviews of local restaurants. Keep in mind that these reviews are my personal opinion and that your experience may be entirely different. If you have been to the restaurants I review, please post a comment telling us about the experience you had there. More than one review is always helpful!

Restaurant: Newport Natural Foods and Cafe/Montgomery's Cafe
Location: Newport, VT
Price Range: $ to $$ {approx. $2.99 to $7.50}

For my birthday lunch, I chose to try a small cafe that has been in town for quite awhile. For some reason, I had yet to try this quaint restaurant on Main Street. Montgomery's Cafe specializes in paninis, cold sandwiches, soups, salads, hot entrees, coffee drinks, baked goods, smoothies, and a juice bar. They feature local ingredients and often offer gluten-free options. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they offer steamers - steamed, flavored milk. I had tried steamers in college and loved them. I didn't know that any place around here offered them! That alone is reason for me to return to this cafe occasionally.

Figuring out the ordering process was a bit confusing at first, but now I understand that soup, salad, and hot entrees are self-serve, and that you order everything else at the counter. On this visit I chose to have a small caramel steamer made with skim milk and a Vermonter panini {turkey, cheddar, apple, honey mustard.} I also tried a few bites of a chicken orzo soup, which was creamy and flavorful. My steamer was great - hot, foamy, sweet, and light thanks to the skim milk option. My parents had never had one before and both agreed that it was quite tasty. My panini was not very greasy, which was great, and was flavorful from the mustard and cheese. Overall, I was pleased with my experience. If you're in the area, check it out! Pin It
