Ingredient Tip

Looking for a way to use up some buttermilk but already have too many baked goods in the house?  Here's a handy tip for you that I just discovered through an Internet search. Buttermilk can be frozen for up to three months. One website I looked at suggested filling ice cube trays with the buttermilk, but I just used freezer-safe containers. This is such a helpful tip because I don't really use buttermilk all that often and had half a jug that was going to go bad if I didn't do something with it. One of the websites I viewed stated that the buttermilk would not be suitable for drinking after being frozen, but would be perfectly fine for baking. Another option? Forego jugs of buttermilk and buy the powdered version that you mix with water. Either option will allow you to prolong the life of your buttermilk! Pin It
