I went to the grocery store after work today and decided to check out pumpkin pie spice since a lot of recipes that I have found call for it. I knew it was a combination of "fall spices," but I wasn't really sure which ones, and I figured it would be easier to just have some pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice on hand. What I discovered is that a teeny, tiny bottle of pumpkin pie spice costs almost $6.00! There was no way that I was going to pay that much for such a small amount. The solution? Search for a recipe and make my own. www.allrecipes.com came through for me with just the recipe I was looking for. According to the website, this recipe will give you enough spice for one typical pumpkin pie recipe, but it would be super easy to double, triple, quadruple, etc. the amounts.
Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
Mix, and store in an air-tight container. I used a clean, empty spice bottle.
This combination smells wonderful, and I'm sure it will come in handy for my fall baking. Enjoy!
